Baby Steps

Drew and I decided on Friday night that it was time to start weaning Matthew from his BELOVED binky. SO Saturday morning when he woke up we convinced him to leave the 3 binkies he sleeps with in his bed (by bribing him with M&Ms). I was shocked at how well he did on day 1 without a binky during awake time. Like the title says...baby steps. He asked for it several times but Drew and I were able to distract him and keep him entertained without his "best friends".

We had a rare Sunday dinner because everyone attended. It was a lot of fun. Then the ride home was interesting with Matthew saying "binky" every 3 seconds. But he survived. I was beginning to worry if I was going to survive the week without Drew home during the day. But so far it hasn't been too bad. I'm not sure if the weaning is related but Matthew has been having some MAJOR tantrums. I think it's just the beginning of the terrible twos that we have ahead of us. I must say he has been a champ and I'm very proud of him. He is talking non-stop. Usually repeating the last word of every single thing we say. It's pretty darn cute having an echo follow me all day.

Molly wore a dress for the 1st time to Sunday dinner

The rest of the weekend was spent working on an organizational project for our playroom and oh yeah; Drew bought a TV bigger than Andrew. Now Drew isn’t one to spend money frivolously. We earned points on our credit card over the past 3 years and were able to use those towards a nice Best Buy gift card. As he was leaving the house he was stressing about making such a big purchase but he did well.

Here is a video of Matthew and Molly while Andrew was at school. I was just taking a picture but instead of saying "cheese", he was saying "M&Ms". I had to take a video.

  2. If you are having trouble with the Binky's, here is what has worked for our family...usually Santa takes them and leaves the presents. Big kids have to give up their binky to get their presents. Then you can just blame him when they ask, "Sorry honey, Santa has all of the binky's, remember we gave them to him." Now that christmas is over, you could use the Easter Bunny. Leave them out for him to pick up and he is going to give them to other babies that need them. In return he will leave a big boy present and hide all of the eggs. It's something about them giving them up voluntarily. He can help you round them up and set them out.
